Weekly: Shut down your laptop. If you are a heavy user such as visiting multiple web sites, using several programs at once and/or during the course of a day, or using graphics programs such as Photoshop or InDesign, you should shut down daily.
Select Apple icon top left corner of menu, select Shut Down
Update your computer operating system, OS X:
- OS X updates should be done when Apple makes them availabie, unless you receive an email from IT indicating you should wait.
- Link to the latest OS Sierra update and installation instructions available from Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201475
- Update other apps after updating the OS X.
Applications and Peripherals:
Disconnect peripherals (flash drives, DVD players), quit applications and eject SD cards when not in use. This increases battery life and performance.
Clean Screen:
- To clean your MacBook Air screen, first shut down your MacBook Air and uplug it.
- Moisten a clean, lint-free cloth with just a little bit water and wipe the screen.
- Don't spray liquid directly on the screen.
Temperatures:
Your device is designed to perform well in a wide range of ambient temperatures, with 62° F to 72° F as the ideal comfort zone. It's especially important to avoid exposing your device to temperatures higher than 95° F, which can permanently damage battery capacity.
Air Vents:
- Mac computers have air vents that allow heated air to exit. The vents are in the back of the computer on the MacBook Air. Make sure the vents remain unblocked to allow performance at it's best.
- Don't operate the MacBook on a pillow, blanket or other soft material blocking ventilation openings.
